              Ako

Balagtas ang aking bayang sinilangan.
Bigaa ang dating tanyag na pangalan;
Walumpong-taon na ang taglay kong buhay,
Pahiram ng Diyos na tanging patnubay!
***
Siya ang liwanag sa gitna ng dilim,
at gabay sa tulay ng sigla’t panimdim;
Pasasalamat ko’y wagas at taimtim,
Sa mga kaloob Niyang aking hiling!
***
Ako’y taga-bukid na sanay sa hirap,
Nguni’t ang damdami’y hitik sa pangarap;
Waring ang maraming taon na lumipas,
Nananabik pa rin sa magandang bukas!
***
Inakay ng Diyos, kaya naiwasan,
Ang maraming tinik sa landas ng buhay!
